The Challenge

LottoShield, co-founded by a former AWS professional, faced the challenge of sifting through massive amounts of point-of-sale data to spot anomalous behavior from store employees. The existing data storage solution was inadequate for the company’s needs, lacking the ability to efficiently query and analyze the data. LottoShield aimed to enhance its data capabilities to better serve its customers by spotting anomalies, trends, and red flags. The goal was to implement a scalable data lake solution on AWS, but the team required expert assistance to achieve this.

SnapSoft's Solution

To address LottoShield's challenges, SnapSoft proposed and implemented an AWS-based data lake solution. Key elements of the solution included:

● Architecture Design: SnapSoft designed a data lake architecture using AWS services such as S3 for storage, Lambda for serverless computing, and Glue for data cataloging and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) operations. Terraform scripts were used to ensure seamless deployment and management of the infrastructure.

● Data Management: The team tackled the complexity of LottoShield’s highly nested data by implementing a hybrid approach. Certain parts of the nested data structure were converted to JSON and stored in specific columns, allowing for efficient querying while maintaining the integrity of the data.

● Optimization: SnapSoft optimized the data ingestion process to reduce costs by implementing a new deduplication technique, ensuring that duplicate POS files are not processed more than once.

The Outcome

The collaboration between SnapSoft and LottoShield resulted in a highly effective data lake solution, delivering several key benefits:

● Improved Data Access: LottoShield now has the capability to efficiently query and analyze its massive data sets, enabling the identification of valuable insights and trends.

● Cost Savings: The optimized data ingestion process reduced operational costs significantly, allowing LottoShield to allocate resources more effectively.

● Scalability and Flexibility: The AWS-based architecture provides the flexibility to scale operations as needed, supporting LottoShield’s growth and future data initiatives.

● Operational Efficiency: The automated and streamlined data management processes have enhanced LottoShield's overall operational efficiency.

The successful implementation of the data lake solution has positioned LottoShield for continued success and innovation in the lottery retail industry. SnapSoft's ability to deliver a tailored, cost-effective, and scalable solution has reinforced its reputation as a reliable and customer-focused cloud infrastructure partner.
